After getting off to a 28-21 start and seeming poised to end their 16-season playoff drought, the third-seeded Sacramento Kings are a buyer as the 2023 NBA trade deadline approaches.
The Kings are looking to add "a more defensive-minded option on the perimeter" and they are "monitoring the availability of Philadelphia's Matisse Thybulle," according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
It makes sense that Sacramento is looking to bolster their defense with a trade. The Kings have the NBA's second-best offense (scoring 115.3 points per 100 possessions), but their defense has struggled and currently ranks 24th in the league (allowing 112.7 points per 100 possessions).
Thybulle has developed a reputation as one of the game's best perimeter defenders. In each of the last two seasons, Thybulle was selected to the All-Defensive Second Team.
Last season, the 25-year-old led the NBA in steal percentage (3.4%) while ranking third in Defensive Box Plus/Minus (+3.3) and fourth in steals per game (1.7).
