St. John's has fired head coach Mike Anderson, the school announced on Friday.
Anderson led St. John's for four seasons, and the team was 68-56 with him at the helm.
"After fully evaluating the men's basketball program, our university has decided a change is needed in both the leadership and direction of St. John's Basketball," St. John's Director of Athletics Mike Cragg said.
"We wish Coach Mike Anderson and his family the best in their future."
Anderson was the 21st head coach in the history of St. John's men's basketball program, and Cragg "has begun a national search" for their next head coach.
Associate head coach Van Macon will lead the program in the interim until a new head coach is hired.
St. John's boasts the ninth-most victories all-time in NCAA Division I history. The program has recorded 90 winning seasons in its storied 116-year history.
With 29 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history, the Red
Storm has made nine runs to the Sweet 16, six trips to the Elite
Eight, and a pair of Final Four appearances in 1952 and 1985.
